Professor David Evans: DIY for beekeepers including foundationless frames and bait hives

David Evans is an academic studying honey bee viruses at the University of St Andrews. This work includes rational Varroa control at the hive and landscape scale, the biology of deformed wing virus and the emergence and control of chronic bee paralysis virus. He currently runs about 20 colonies in Fife for 'business and pleasure' and has interests in queen rearing and DIY solutions to practical beekeeping problems, including "bee sheds" for weather-independent colony management. He writes the Question & Answers section of the BBKA newsletter and has written a weekly post for his website ('The Apiarist' ; on a range of beekeeping topics for over 5 years.
